24 august 2015: Transport prices rose by 10.4 percent to record levels
Transport prices rose by 10.4 percent in the second quarter of 2015 compared to the first quarter of 2015, according to the twenty-fourth edition of the Transport Market Monitor (TMM) from TRANSPOREON and Capgemini Consulting.
transport_europaDe price index rose by 10.4 percent in the second quarter of 2015 and thus achieved the highest index since the beginning of the measurements (index 104.9), in January 2008. Compared to the index level in the second quarter of 2014 (index 100) , the price index is now 4.9 percent higher than last year. In the second quarter of 2015, the diesel index increased by 5.3 percent to an index of 90.7. This is 10.6 percent lower than the same period last year.
The capacity index dropped to 67.8 (-34.8 percent), which is the lowest level since the second quarter of 2011 (index 66.6) and the second lowest since records began in 2008.
Erik van Dort, supply chain director at Capgemini said: "The figures for 2015 clearly reflect the economic recovery in Europe. The second quarter of 2015 shows the highest transport rates since we started the measurements in 2008. If we then very low diesel prices are taken into consideration, this result is even more remarkable. "
Peter Förster, Managing Director of TRANSPOREON, added: "The trend towards low capacity, which was already visible in the first quarter, continuing into the second quarter. Shippers among our customers confirm this development. They have more difficulties in finding logistics providers for their transport orders. "
