Where is my forklift?
How many miles did it drive?
How many hours has it been driven and how efficiently has it worked?
Who has driven the forklift?
Who is authorised to drive it and who is not authorised?
The maintenance of forklift trucks would ideally be based on engine running time or distance travelled. But due to the difficulties to monitor actual use, it usually gets done at simple fixed time intervals. Using wireless communication by 2G or Wifi enables automatic monitoring and so efficiently scheduled maintenance.
Companies that rent out forklifts face problems with theft, non-paying customers and battery exchange. Being able to monitor usage and track location of the truck enables the hire company to confirm that the customer is using it appropriately and enables them to recover the truck if need be. It is also very useful for maintenance scheduling.
